Orientation Program with Government Physicians at Rajbari
To create treatment opportunity for gender diverse people in Government Health Centre, Bandhu Social Welfare Society regularly organizes daylong orientation program with government physicians. The major objective of the session was to create common understanding about gender diverse/Hijra health need issues and mechanism to ensure necessary assistance availing proper health services at local level. As a part of this initiatives, Bandhu arranged the consultation with the doctors of Civil Surgeon on 14th May 2018 at Civil Surgeon Office in Rajbari. A total of 19 government doctors includes Civil Surgeon, Residential Medical Officer, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officers (UHFPO) participated the program.
The program started with the welcome speech of Dr. Md. Rahim Boksh, Civil Surgeon, Rajbari district. He mentioned the role of Govt. Physicians ensuring stigma and discrimination free medical service is essential to reduce HIV burden. The major recommendations of the program were:
- Gender Diverse issues can be included in medical course in future.
- Doctors are committed to discuss this issue with other doctors at upzilla level.
- A corner can be designed for this diverse group in UHC, so that they can visit the hospitals without hesitation.
- Direct interaction with the community is equally important, therefore Bandhu may invite few people from the community in future program.
