A charming dance performance was organized by Essence of Soul, a core dance group of Bandhu
On 28/10/20, a charming dance performance was organized by Essence of Soul, a core dance group of Bandhu from 6.00pm to 8.00pm at Khulna Press Club. The program was supported by International Republic Institute (IRI). A total of 7 thematic dances were performed by the team where all members of the team are from the Gender Diverse Community (GDP). The main objective of the program was to create awareness amongst the mass people for ensuring their inclusion and rights in the society.
The Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate of Khulna, Md. Helal Hossain (PAA) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In addition, the President of Khulna Press Club, Bir Muktijoddha Maqbool Hossain, General Secretary of Press Club Md. Mamun Reza, President of Khulna Journalists Union Mahbub Alam Sohag, Divisional Head of BASAK Khulna SM Zahid Bandhan, Khulna District Magistrates, dignitaries attended the event along with other local and national NGOs and community people. A total of 110 people enjoyed the event together.
Umme Farhana Zarif Kanta, Director-Policy Advocacy and Human Rights, Bandhu Social Welfare Society inaugurated the session with welcome remarks. In her introductory speech, she briefly shared about the activities of Bandhu, objectives of the performance along with IRI. The performance started with the thematic dance “Nari Tilottoma” and COVID 19 which was focused on Women Empowerment.
At the end of the dances, the Chief Guest and other dignitaries from Khulna Press Club were called upon the stage to deliver the speech. The guests were honored with the flowers and crest of Bandhu. After that Md. Helal Hossain PAA, DC of Khulna presented his warm speech. He started his speech with Thank Giving Note to Bandhu Social Welfare Society for organizing such innovative event and then he highlighted the social image of the Transgender community through the rest of the speech. He also shared the future plans of Bangladesh Government towards Hijra Community. He shared about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), saying “Improvement is not possible without leaving anyone behind.”. So achieving the SDGs, we all have to work together. He also said that the, Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Government of Bangladesh already has taken necessary steps for the development of this particular community. At the end of the speech, he wished everyone a long life. After the speech, the event continued with dances, documentary etc. The event ended at 8.00pm.
