Bandhu Social Welfare Society (Bandhu) started its journey in 1996 with a core objective to work for the wellbeing of sexual minority populations and upholding their human rights with the following mission and vision:

Mission:

Bandhu Social Welfare Society works toward the well-being of sexual minorities by facilitating sexual and reproductive health services and supporting human rights, dignity and livelihoods of their choices.

Vision:

Bandhu Social Welfare Society envisions a Bangladesh where every person, irrespective of their gender and sexuality, is able to lead a quality life with dignity, human rights and social justice.

Bandhu started its activities in 1996 but it was formally registered with Ministry of Social welfare and NGO Affairs Bureau in 1997. Bandhu believes that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Sexual orientation and gender identity are integral to every person’s dignity and humanity and must not be the basis for discrimination or abuse. One cannot be deprived of justice because of his/her sexual orientation and gender identity. Therefore Bandhu ensures that the sexual minority rights-based approach is inclusive in all its service deliveries and advocacy initiatives and is being implemented in line with the international treaties and policies including UDHR and Yogyakarta Principles.
