Showroom of third gender community in International Trade Fair
Siri, a Community Based Organization (CBO) and handicraft producing center participated in Dhaka International Trade Fair 2018. Siri as CBO is associate with Bandhu Social Welfare Society which is located in Jamalpur. Bandhu’s role is to ensure all kind technical support to the CBOs for their sustainability and good governance. As a part of it, Bandhu arranged training on Resource Mobilization and Sustainability for the CBOs, so that they can start their own business within their limitations. Currently there are around 60 members in Siri Shomaj Kollayan Shongstha who belongs to the third-gender community. Among the members, 40 of them invested their small savings and engaged themselves with Siri handicrafts business. They also received training from social welfare services on block-boutique, handicrafts and tailoring. Now this CBO has already been listed in the SME Foundation. The stall in trade fair was displayed with female costumes, nakshi kantha, bed cover, cushion cover, and Jainamaj produced by the community. The price of these products has been fixed from Tk 200 to Tk 7500 based on the product. The organization has an office and sales center at Govindbari area under Jamalpur district.
