Inclusion of Hijra issue in national textbooks: the discussion has started in Bangladesh
June 18, 2016-Toufiq Aziz Khan Seminar Hall, The Daily Star Center, 64-65, Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Dhaka – 1215, Bangladesh: Bandhu Social Welfare Society (Bandhu) organized an orientation session on Inclusion of Hijra issue in National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB). The main objectives of this program was to have a clear and correct information about the Hijra Community and their traditional culture and outlining the way forward in the development of Hijra community by inclusion a Hijra issue in National Curriculum and Textbook. A total of 50 participants from Education Ministry, Social Welfare Department, National Curriculum and Textbook Board, different educational institutions, Law Enforcement Agencies, Lawyer, NGO representatives, Journalists, Hijra Representatives attended. Anisul Islam Hero, Chairperson of Bandhu inaugurated the session with Cordial thanks to everyone. Shale Ahmed, Executive Director of Bandhu Social Welfare Society shared a presentation on recent developments of Hijra community in Bangladesh, national & regional scenario align with Bandhu’s ongoing activities. Professor Narayan Chandra Saha-Chairman, NCTB as Chief Guest and Dr Ratan Siddique-Member-Textbook, NCTB was there as Special Guest. In the session, number of significant recommendations came from the audience.
